Lyndal Hargrave has a new solo exhibition - All the Little Pieces - opening at Anita Traverso Gallery (7 Albert St, Richmond, Melbourne, Vic. Ph: 03 9428 7557) on 2 September and continuing to 3 October. The show includes recent sculptures and paintings exploring the similarities in natural and man-made structures from micro to macro.
Lyndal's group exhibition - Geomantra with Susan Buret and Jacinta Howard finishes at Doggett Street Studio on 5 September.
Recent Drawings and Paintings is Dave Groom's newest offering of works which focus on the landscape that surrounds his studio in the Gold Coast hinterland.
The exhibition open at 6-9pm, Friday 11 September at Doggett Street Studio. (85 Doggett
St, Newstead, Qld) and continues until 3 October.
Di West entered four sculptures into the Qld Royal National Show this year and was fortunate enough to win 1st Prize in the Abstract Division, and 2nd and 3rd Prizes for Figurative. Two of the works were sold, with one of the sculptures being purchased by the judge, John Massey.
Di was also selected to exhibit works as joint feature artist at the Brisbane Boys Grammar School to celebrate their 40th Annual Art Show which was held at the end of August.
Three paintings from Nicola Moss's Pollination series have been selected for a curated group exhibition - The Flower Show - at Brenda May Gallery (2 Danks Street, Waterloo, NSW. Ph: 02 9318 1122). The exhibition, inspired by all things botanical, opens on 22 September and continues to 18 October. If you are in Sydney, drinks with the artists is on Saturday 26 September (4-6pm).
Karyn Fendley has a solo exhibition - Remnant Wilderness - opening at The Northern Rivers Gallery (44 Cherry St, Ballina, NSW. Ph: 02 6681 6167) running Saturday 3 October to 25 October.
The mixed media landscape paintings questions how humans have upset the ecological balance of their environment. The artworks are inspired by the vulnerable area where the artist has been living and working - in the rain-forest bordering Mt. Jerusalem National Park in Northern NSW.
Lola McFarlane’s artwork will be part of the Moreton Bay Arts Council Art Auction on Sunday 6 September at Settlement Cove (Redcliffe, Qld) with a preview exhibition on now until Saturday at the Stage Door Gallery (Redcliffe Cultural Centre, Downs Street).
Two works will also be exhibited and auctioned in the I AM... Fundraising Exhibition for the Women’s Legal Service which happens 16-18 October at Studio 13 (13 Kurilpa Street, West End, Qld).
Nick Olsen has been selected as a finalist in the 2009 Tattersalls Art Prize for landscape painting. Nick’s painting - Pieces of a landscape - was selected from over 350 entrants Australia wide. The $20 000 award will be announced on Wednesday 9 September, and the public can view the exhibition at Waterfront place where it will be open until 25 September.
For September, Megan Jones will be spending a month in Iceland, in a residency programme run by SIM - The Association of Icelandic Artists.
“I am hoping to learn and experience as much as possible about Iceland and Icelandic art and artists,” Megan relates. “I also want to spend time there working on my current series of works, incorporating experiences from Iceland into the series.”
Helen Malone has had four artists books selected for inclusion in Le livre est une oeuvre d'art (The book is a work of art) held
in conjunction with Art Vitam France at Galerie Europ'Art
(6 rue Marceau, Aigue-Mortes, France). The exhibition includes
the work of 15 artists from 4 countries and runs from 11
October to 31 December.
Kathryn Brimblecombe-Fox’s entry for the $15 000 Manning Art Prize has been preselected with the prize announced on 19 September.
