Jennifer Long Exhibition

 
Winter scenes of bare branches and the lone figure in the landscape feature in Jennifer Long's new exhibition - Sojourner -
which opens at Graydon Gallery (29 Merthyr Road, New Farm, Q) on Friday 16 October (6-8pm) and runs from 13 - 25 October. The works are quiet and reflective revealing a brief glimpse of life in Venice and Paris.

New Rachael Lee exhibition - Transition


Rachael Lee’s latest solo exhibition - Transition - opens at Doggett Street Studio (85 Doggett St, Newstead. Qld, Ph: 07 3252 9292) on Friday 9 October (6-9pm). The works are an exploration of repeating a component to form patterns, which through the use of layering, challenges our visual perception. The show then continues to 31 October.



Cernak part of 15 Artists 2009

 
Cernak is one of the 15 Artists currently on display at the Redcliffe City Gallery (470-476 Oxley Ave. Redcliffe, Qld. Ph: 07 3283 03415) which runs to 24 October (with her work The Stolen Net, Bone Cell and History of the 100 Year’s War).

You can also view a 2 year retrospective of Cernak’s work on Friday 23 October (5.30-8pm) at Studio Red (West Campus of Redcliffe Secondary College, enter Klinger St, corner of Oxley Ave. Ph: 07 3897 1111/07 3283 8204). It will be up until 11 November.

Another Stephen Baxter Bricolage

 
Stephen Baxter’s latest exhibition - Another BRICOLAGE - opens at the Gold Coast City Art Gallery Foyer on 17 October and runs to 6 December. It features painting, drawing, ceramics, photography and mixed media works that respond to his immediate personal landscape as a Gold Coast artist and working part time at the GCCAG as Installation and Collection Co-ordinator.

Jimmy Rix part of Public Space talk at AGNSW

Jimmy Rix has been invited to be a guest speaker at the Art Gallery of New South Wales for the Art in Public and Not So Public Spaces talk on 2 November 2009. Tickets can be purchased from Sculpture by the Sea (Ph: 02 8399 0233). Jimmy was recently awarded the Clitheroe Foundation Mentorship Emerging Sculptors Award by Sculpture by the Sea.

Mark Dutney Constructions

 
Mark Dutney’s latest exhibition - SIN TIME PLACE: New Constructions and Paintings 2008-2009 - opens at Doggett Street Studio (85 Doggett St, Newstead, Qld) on Friday 9 October (6-9pm) and runs to 31 October. Mark has made pairs of constructions after looking at sites of significance for him around South East Queensland (Story Bridge, Cherry Venture, Valley Pool etc). Mark has also worked on a series of 70 panels based on The Seven Deadly Sins.

I Am Kathryn Brimblecombe-Fox

 
Kathryn Brimblecombe-Fox has a painting selected for the Women’s Legal Service I Am exhibition which runs 16-18 October at Studio 13 (West End), and
recently Kathryn was a finalist in the Warwick Art Prize which was announced on 2 October.

Colin Suggett's Virtual Child

 
Colin Suggett's new sculpture - Virtual Child - has been pre-selected for the $10000 Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Award 2009. The exhibition opens on Wednesday 21 October at the Burwood Road (Melbourne) campus.

Anita West at Art on Hastings

 
Anita West was recently selected to exhibit three of her latest paintings at the Art on Hastings exhibition (Sheraton Noosa, Qld) which happened in September. Seagull Patrol is indicative of the large, lyrical beach paintings recently on show at the Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery.

Short Takes - October 2009

Nicola Moss is now represented by SALT Contemporary Art Gallery (33-35 Hesse Street, Queenscliff) in Victoria. Works are on view from early October.

Lyndal Hargrave
is set to exhibit with Jacinta Howard at Art Sydney (Royal Hall of
Industries, Moore Park, NSW) from 22-25 October. Sculptures and
paintings will be on show with Geomancer Fine Art Gallery, Stand F7.

John Weeronga Bartoo
is currently part of an international exhibition - Just Art - which is
on at Galeria Zero (Barcelona, Spain) until 23 October. Also both of
John's entries in the Warwick Art Prize 2009 made the final at the
Warwick Regional Art Gallery.

Tony Nugent has won 2nd place in the Oil/Acrylic section of the Ocean Shores Arts Expo for 2009. The theme of the expo was Seeds of Change.
