Amanda O’Sullivan at Brisbane Square Library

Amanda O’Sullivan will be displaying a selection of her handmade Artist books in her exhibition - Birds and Trees - at the Brisbane Square Library (George Street, Brisbane), in May and June 2010. She will also be talking about her work on 12 June at 11am in the Tiered Theatrette, on the ground floor in the Library.

Amanda has also had her book - One Little Tree - selected in the Libris Award exhibition in Mackay.

New Solo show for Roger Lane

Roger Lane’s latest exhibtion - Rhythm and Views - opens at Martin Galleries (4 Aspinall Road, Nundah, Qld. Ph: 07 3266 8450) on 10 June (6pm) and continues until 27 June.

Nick Olsen part of Moreton Art Prize

Nick Olsen recently completed his first solo exhibition at Blank_Space Gallery (Crown St, Surry Hills, Sydney, NSW) and was a great success. One of the paintings from this show was chosen as a finalist in the Moreton Art prize to be held at the Pine Rivers Art Gallery.

Joyce Blanche part of Art for Art’s Sake

Joyce Blanche is one of the featured artists participating in the 2010 Art for Art's Sake organised by the Cerebral Palsy League. The exhibition is being held in the Waterfront Place Foyer (1 Eagle Street, Brisbane, Q) from 10-21 May.
 
Joyce is also a selected finalised in the Lethbridge 10000 Small Scale Art Awards which opens on 22 May (6pm) at the Lethbridge Gallery (Paddington, Brisbane, Q).

New Maria Wiley work set for August

Maria Wiley is having her second solo exhibition - Internal Landscapes…Exploring the Intuitive - 17 works on paper at the Biloela Civic Centre (Cnr Rainbow & Prairie Sts, Biloela, Q. Ph: 07 4992 2447) which opens on Friday 6 August (6.30pm) and runs t0 21 August.
 
Maria continues to explore the intuitive abstract in her bold, colourful style.  Amongst the works will be the winning piece - Pathways - in the 2009 Brigalow Arts Festival.

New Antony Densham work set for University of Auckland

Antony Densham’s latest exhibition - Lost Time - runs 3-23 June at [Window] artspace (5 Alfred Street, General Library Foyer, The University of Auckland, New Zealand). The objects presented here are abstracted architectural models.

John Weeronga Bartoo currently in two group shows

John Weeronga Bartoo is currently part of Little Treasures: an International Art Exhibition at Galleria De' Marchi (Bologna, Italy) and runs to 21 May.

John is also part of a group exhibition at Artists Haven Gallery (2757 East Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Ph: 954-817-4893) which is on 1-30 June.

And John has also made the finals of the Tattersalls Landscape Art Prize 2010 in Brisbane.

Mollie Bosworth showing new Porcelain work

Mollie Bosworth's solo exhibition - New Work in Porcelain - will be opening at Pan Gallery (142-144 Weston St, Brunswick East, Melbourne, Vic) on 2 June (6-8pm) and continues to 30 June. Mollie's work features wheel throw forms with imagery and patterns developed during her recent research with metallic salts and laser prints.

Anthony Bennett work set for Richard Martin Art

'the long drive to the second window', is the title of the upcoming exhibition for anthony bennett, opening in Sydney on 26 May (6-8pm). The exhibition contains recent painting and sculpture and will be held at Richard Martin Art (98 Holdsworth Street, Woollahra, NSW). This exhibition continues to explore the post-minogue-ist aesthetic but with slightly less pink than might be expected, and it runs until 9 June.

Susan Buret at Anita Traverso Gallery

Susan Buret's solo exhibition - Stolen Geometry from the Gardens of Love - is currently showing at Anita Traverso Gallery (7 Albert Street, Richmond, Melbourne, Vic. Ph: 03 9428 7557) and finishes up on 29 May.

Anita West set for Redlands booklet

Anita West has had two images selected for the Redlands City Council Promotional Postcard Booklet.

She is also exhibiting 6 large paintings in the Cerebral Palsy Art for Art Sake Exhibition which is on now at Waterfront Place until 21 May, and Anita has also kindly donated one of her popular large beach paintings for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Appeal Art Auction to take place at Gallery One (located in the Brickworks precinct at Southport) on 15 May.

Anita has new representation with Gallery One on the Gold Coast.

Sasi Victoire, Laurel McKenzie and Margaret Genever in Wonderland

Sasi Victoire, Laurel McKenzie and Margaret Genever will exhibit - Wonderland - at Vivo Artroom (Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove, Qld. Ph: 07 4059 0944) from 18 June to 17 August. In Sasi's woodcuts and mixed media works, there’s a playful revamp of Alice in Wonderland imagery which creates a new narrative of life in tropical Wonderland. Laurel’s pigment-based prints place red-carpet celebrities in unfamiliar territory while Margaret’s archival pigment prints, set in the circus realm, draw attention to ambiguities in the human animal/non-human animal relationship.

Symone Male part of Salon Des Refuses

Symone Male entered the Archibald Portrait prize this year and her painting of Seja Vogel - Clever Cookie - was chosen by The National Trust to be shown at the alternate Archibald exhibition - Salon Des Refuses.

The exhibition is currently hanging at the S.H.Ervin Gallery (Observatory Hill, The Rocks, Sydney, NSW) until 23 May. The show then tours to the Tweed River Gallery from the 24 June - 8 August.

Lisa Pullen part of The Nightladder

Lisa Pullen, along with artists Angela Gardner and Gwenn Tasker, are part of The Nightladder exhibition which features silk screen, linocuts and etching prints, inspired by the poems of Angela Gardner.

The show is to be held at Redland Art Gallery (Capalaba Place, Noeleen St, Capalaba, Qld. Ph: 07 3030 4163), opening on Thursday 27 May (6pm) and continuing to 7 July.

Short Takes - May 2010

TenPlusOne’s annual exhibition opens at NONA Gallery (Brisbane Institute of Art, Grafton St, Windsor, Q) on Friday 21 May (6-9pm) and runs to 2 June.

Kathryn Brimblecombe-Fox is holding a small exhibition - Presence - at The Upfront Club (31 Maple St, Maleny, Qld. Ph: 07 54942592) opening on Thursday 20 May (6-8pm) and continues to 15 June.

Artist Wendy McGrath is a selected artist for the Treeline Art in the Environment Project, and will be installing a site specific work - The Imploring Forest - in the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens (Palm Creek Road, Tanawah, Qld). The Catchment Collective are making works in the Gardens, to be opened on Saturday 29 May (10am-2pm) with art installations, free children's activities and more. It will then be open for viewing until 6 June.

Nicola Moss and Susan Buret's video - That's my Clothes Line Tan - opens at the Gold Coast City Gallery (135 Bundall Street, Surfer's Paradise, Qld. Ph: 07 5581 6567) on Saturday 5 June 2010 (4-6pm). The exhibition continues until 1 August.
