Stephen Baxter wins Moreton Bay Regional Art Award 2011

 Stephen Baxter was announced overall winner of the Moreton Bay Regional Art Award 2011 with his painting Gold Coast Winter.

The award was judged by Philip Bacon who commented about the work, "This winning work will be a great addition to the Collection. It is a dancing, lyrical depiction of Queensland at its most attractive. The quick, nervous strokes and lines add to the immediacy of the captured moment".

The work was acquired for the Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Collection.

Nick Ashby - Day After Day

 Nick Ashby's latest exhibition - Day After Day - is now on at Anthea Polson Art (Mariners' Cove, Seaworld Drive, Main Beach, Gold Coast, Qld) until 11 June.

Sue Beyer reaches awards' finals

Sue Beyer, a recent graduate of the honours program at QCA, has been selected as a finalist in the Moreton Bay Art Prize, The Prometheus Visual Art Award and the Sunshine Coast Art Prize this year.

Lyndal Hargrave - Constructs of Love and Logic

 Lyndal Hargrave's solo exhibition - Constructs of Love and Logic - opens at Brenda May Gallery (2 Danks Street, Waterloo, Sydney, NSW. Ph: 02 93181122) on 7 June (6-8pm).

The wall mounted sculptures are constructed with found elements and objects of the everyday. The show then continues to 2 July.

Kathryn Brimblecombe-Fox has created a website gallery - Water and Gas - for her 'quiet activist' paintings dealing with issues surrounding water, coal seam gas, prime strategic food producing land, Great Artesian Basin and other related concerns.
 

Danielle O'Brien thinking outside the lines

Danielle O'Brien has been commissioned by the advertising agency running The Foot Locker Art Prize to create a sample artwork to inspire entrants to ‘think outside the lines’.

A series of mini-documentaries follows Danielle’s ‘Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe’ – inspired piece from the initial concept to completion.

Wendy McGrath part of Floating Land

Wendy McGrath has been making work for the Floating Land 2011 Green Art event, together with Catchment Collective artists. They have installed ephemeral and site specific sculptures along the Coolum Boardwalkwhich is now on show. The theme for this year is Water/Culture.

Trio get Epicurious at Vivo

Epicurious - a new group exhibition featuring Sasi Victoire, Laurel McKenzie and Margaret Genever - celebrates food, eating and fantasy in Tropical North Queensland. The artists reflect individually and collectively on the unique culinary produce and the lifestyle of the tropics in their printed imagery at Artroom@Vivo (Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove, Qld) and opens on Friday 17 June (5.30pm) and continues to 4 September 2011.

Jon Linkins' major refurb complete

 Jon Linkins has just finished a major refurbishment of his photographic and print studio (209 South Pine Road, Enoggera, Qld). He now provides wide format pigment ink (Giclee) prints up to 1.1meters wide on archival artists materials, as well as art documentation services and ultra high resolution
scanning of artworks on paper and canvas, stretched and unstretched up to virtually any size.

Di West - Best In Show

 Di West feels a great achievement in being chosen as “Best of Show - Sculpture", for her work - Fallen - at the recently held Immanuel Arts Festival 2011.

Di has also been selected (for the second year in a row) to exhibit her sculpture - Swimstar - in the Noosa Regional Gallery Travelling Scholarship 2011 (27 July - 11 September).

Jane Creenaune off to Italy

Jane Creenaune is undertaking an Artist-in-Residence project in Italy under the sponsorship and collaboration of Artegiro + The Monash Centre Prato. The residency culminates in an exhibition of work based on identity and migration. The project will be posted on-line in August.

Jane is also having a solo show at Red Hill Gallery in November.

Elisabeth Lawrence chosen for awards

Elisabeth Lawrence has been selected to contribute a number of works for this year’s Sanctuary Cove Art Festival (4-5 June) at the Gold Coast, and some have also been chosen for the Art for Arts Sake exhibition (Riverside Centre, 123 Eagle Street, Brisbane, Qld) which runs 20 June to 1 July, and the Moreton Bay Art Awards (20–29 June).
